Kind Communities, Kind Food
A couple of weeks ago team members Cherish and Hannah attended the Kind Communities, Kind Food event at Stockingford Community Centre.
Kind Communities, Kind Food is a County Council-led community engagement programme that provides live cooking demonstrations and free information about how to adopt healthier lifestyles as well as other food-related community support.
The event offered lots of support to local people including:
• Cooking demonstrations by Warwickshire Food Champions;
• Free health checks;
• Free advice on energy saving, health and wellbeing and reducing food waste;
• Talks and tips on affordability and using slow cookers and air fryers – including free air fryers and slow cookers;
• Information about becoming a Warwickshire Food champion; and
• Children’s activities
At Saints we do a lot of work around food insecurity, and so we were thrilled to be asked to attend, and run a cooking demonstration as well as share opportunities for support. We demonstrated our Speedy Veggie Stroganoff recipe, which Cherish has been teaching in the ‘Budget Bites’ course at Saints! It went down a storm, and we had to make a second batch! It was wonderful to be able to show people how easy it is to cook interesting, nutritious meals at home, and pack in lots of vegetables too.
Here is the recipe we used:
